GreenCities Institute initiatives

A Global initiative to assemble, analyse, code, train and share a web based Knowledgebase to support Sustainable Habitat.
This initiative started at GreenCities conference in USA 2009. The initiatve welcome input and support from all interested. The knowledgebase classification and developement that started now requires more extensive data and knowledgebase build-ups and share from academia, industry, government and intertested NGOs.

The unified resource point is expected to grow and expand to developing nations, where a rapid industrial growth is underway, without adequate awareness on sustiainable industry practices. You may join the Business Action for Sustainable Development (BASD) at the 2012 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in Rio de Janeiro. The BASD attempts to improve awareness and understanding on sustaiability leadership from the industries across nations.

We can collectively have that balanced growth and resource benefits, if we help, while help is required... that is now.

Engage in building a Future

Wider engagement in planning and development often helps to meet the last or first mile issues.

The engagements helps to start a development scenario or  conclude by usage/mis-use.

Providing a tangible framework for physical development requires extensinsive urban/regional planning knowledge/experience. All developments need professional groups with creativity, vision, experience and willingness to 'create', 'operate' and 'manage' the development.

The efforts to create the public good also require all essential management framework to sustain its operation and viability.

Are we creating the 'places' efficiently - with all positive engagements facilitated ? [Benchmark]
Are these places really provide us better habitats to work, play, educate and live ? [Quality of life]

Do they get developed effectively ? [development efficiency index]
Are they managed efficiently ? [management efficiency]

HST and Future Enterprise Systems

The 'mobility technologies' are changing... for the wheels and gadgets we used to have now and in the past.

Then, do we have systems, processes, enterprises which are ready for a fast paced world, and run with it... At the high-speed of information and fast transportation expected in the future (while Einsteen's light speed failed hold our belief on physics (of speed)!), what kind of process and systems would hold its place in our lives?

We are going to have more 'physics' problems to solve as "High-speed Management Systems" for our habitat.

The fundamentals of Management methods for many enterprises are yet to catch-up with the future mobility tech changes and challenges.

Integrated NetworkCities - NextBiz

We have been living and going on with our business as usual for all these days...
But, what if we fast-forward and agrregate the existing bad, ugly, good and the best into that future Habitat...can you visualize that as NextHabitat!
Yes. much of the things we currently see and with our incrased capacity to move beyond mother earth, may not provide a sustainable habitat for all.

We human beings may eventually shrink our commute to regular grocery shpooing, shcool, offices and travel long and hard to places with sustainable Habitat environment - like many migratory animals.

Comfort zones of habitats that hold plants and animals and thier transit cooridors teach us about similar pattern of living, interaction and survival techniques. We being the elite among the animal kingdom, our human habitat would be a enhanced habitat - cities, neighborhoods, with transit cooridors connecting them. Can that human ecosystem be a sustainable Habitat system ?  We need to develop and perfect a mature a living pattern and system for a sustainable Habitat.
Our cities, then need to be self-sufficient, integrated and highly inter-connected. Do we have that NextGen Habitat systems and infrastructure in our Urban Labs ? Can we upgrade and adopt standards and systems to reach that ideal state of Integrated NetworkCities? what would be that nextbiz - state of business organizations and institutions like? We are left with more questions than what we are trying to answer...

rapid real estate development - not the solution for growth!

The recent economic slow-down in economy and its far reaching effects in other industries and nations, point towards structural issues in banking and real estate industry.

Rapid real estate growth without long-term, intergrated, multi-sector growth strategy...may yield un-predictable market crashes.

The cumulative slump in real estate industry drag down banks that provided loans and used the papers in the wall street. This is a pattern of lending and real estate in many countries. But when market slump moves as under-current in the economy is not addressed reagionally and at sector level, it affect the whole economy. During the recession, even unrelated sectors use the weekness as reason for government bail outs or bridge loan requests.

The commercial papers generated within a sector like 'real estate' shall be evaluated at a different rate and not be overly (beyond a ratio) used for investments in other sectors. Un controlled use the real estate commercial paper in equity market is not advisable. When the real estate sector slump occur, that momentum drags down the other sectors which use those 'poorly performing' commercial paper from real estate.

yes. create housing banks, industrial banks, auto banks etc. etc. as specialized banks to deal each value chain, debt or credit issues seperately...is a good approach. Instead of having over-grown, un-focused, growth hungry, overarching, multi-national banking firms... with all the bad apples in the single basket. These are the learning points... Unlike in schools, we cannot mix good students and bad students in same classes and always expect good results...some gets stressed out wthout incentives, some good ones perform poor, some bad performers gain the same glut...

Moving with unity!!

What are we doing here...!

We all have a mobile shell 'car/truck..' moving side by side along a path 'road'...

if we all people moving in unison along single path between transit points...can we put all these people and goods on single larger carrier.. and move...between such transit nodes...that happens only in an ideal world!!

But that is where the multi-mode travelling happens...Then, that the 'last-mile travel' at 'own will' using 'own car/truck'... that is a real-issue for such commuters...

Transport carrers can solve this issue...by providing incentives to travellers for that 'last-mile'...

intersting subject to discuss and lots of venture opportunities here...

Parks and Recreation Trails:

Parks and Recreation Trails:

Urban and rural pedestrian and cycle trails planning need to be a standard component of design and planing of communities. These trails can link people to fresh natual spaces.

The local materials and plants can survive for long, if such trails are planned as part of conservation around residential, schools, parks, commercial areas.

In the long-run, in the absense of such elememnts, cities and regions would grow without green space buffers. This helps natural habiat and healthy environments for people to live and entertain.

Mobile resources and Operations management

Mobile resources and operations management

With the increasing mobility and ubiquitous connectivity, companies are expanding and diversifying operations in markets with many unfamiliar conditions. City and Regional market resource database and mobile task management is an important component for any solution in this area.

City and Regional administrations, industry chambers, companies all have thier parts of the responsibility to organise and maintain a coordinated mobile work environment. Such environment would be a long-term incentive for business to operate and sustain in the coming future. The BartiNet vision for a Community, business and administration partnership would go long way to create a progressive market condition.

Transportation Knowledge Manegement

It is important to have a world-wide knowledge base management system. The solutions to design, create or resolve transportation systems are univeral in nature. The Wheel became a technology became a equalizer for Transportation Design and Planning systems across countries. There are differences in quality, material and practice of solutions from place to place.

Travel types, mode, road categories, standards, distances all these parameters are universal to transportation planning, irrespective the nationality. A knowledge management system may contain those topics at the root level of the knowledge texonomy.

This tropic require extensive discussion and information gathering. All contributions are welcome.

Chamber of Trade/Commerce and Private Partnership

Business initiatives in Cities:

Urban centres continue to influence growth and transformation in many developing countries. The trend is very intensive where economic policies are liberal and integrated with global markets. The links and network betweek Chanber of Trade and Commerce with cities and regional apex bodies are becoming very key aspect of development initiatives in many countries.

The developed countries have demonstrated the benefits of urban management bodies cooperation with local Chambers. The rate of investment, skills, employment and technoology flow help those cities to build stronger economies.

City Hierarchy and management issues

The extent, complexity and solutions applicable for ideal management of cities varies from one City to another. The conditions of the cities vary with factors like citizen participation, administratiion, infrastrcuture, business operations, historic identity etc.
The importance of corporate management policies and standards are evident while reviewing hierarchy of Cities and showing diaprities in rate of development. The disparities occur in different parts of any country as a case, with same legal and economic framework.

Development Projects - start with a vision & plan

evolution of cities and towns....
yes. they grow from simple halmlets, to villages, towns, city and Metros...

But, where we start..

it should all start with a Vision, then a Plan forward...
